Drivers License Card Renewal
A driver's license is a legal authorization, or an official document confirming such authorization, for a specific individual to operate one or more types of motorized vehicle, such as motorcycles, cars, trucks, or buses on a public road.

- Please WhatsApp a clear copy of your ID card, along with your request for a drivers licence appointment. Our office will then confirm the earliest available date and time for your appointment.
BRING THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS
- Eye Test Certificate (not older than 3 Months)
- 1 x ID Photo (only if drivers license also expired)
- Original ID Book or ID Card
- Original Drivers License (Expired / soon to expire)
- 2 x Copies of ID
- 2 x ID Photos
- Black Pen
- Complete and bring along DL1
What If my driver’s license is lost/stolen?
- All of the above (with the exception of the original drivers license card)
- An affidavit from the police stating that your licence card was lost or stolen.
- 2 x ID Photos (we can take photos at our offices for you)
While it is a bit of an inconvenience to renew your driver’s licence every 5 years, it is essential to stay on the right side of the South African law.

When do I need to renew my driver’s license?
Drivers license cards are valid for 5 years. Your driver’s licence expiry date is printed right under your licence number on your actual drivers license card. According to the South African government, licences must be renewed four weeks before the printed expiry date.
When will I receive my new driver’s license card?
It usually takes about 12-24 weeks for a new driver’s licence to be processed. You will receive a notification via SMS or e-mail, you can collect your licence from the License Department.

Once your new driver’s licence card is ready for collection, you have the following options:
- Personal Collection: Please bring your Original South African ID card or ID book
- Cathy’s Q4U Collection Service: Please notify us on our WhatsApp line to collect Drivers Licence on your behalf and send photo of ID card. A collection fee applies. Our office will confirm the applicable collection fee with you.
- Authorise Another Person to Collect. You will need: A certified copy of your ID, a certified copy of the person collecting on your behalf’s ID, and an affidavit explaining that you have permitted them to receive it on your behalf.
